On 10 November 2020, Captain Atul Dhankhar planned and led 'Operation Kutapura' wherein two hardcore terrorists of Al Badr Tanzeem were eliminated. Operational teams under him approached the target area from multiple directions through dense orchards and laid a tight cordon around the target house thereby trapping two terrorists. Sensing an opportunity to induce surrender, the officer started negotiating with the terrorists. At approximately 0945 hrs the terrorists started tiring indiscriminately and attempted to escape. Meanwhile one of the hiding terrorists managed to break the bathroom window and jumped out firing UBGLs. On observing the fleeing terrorist, Captain Atul Dhankhar, under covering fire of his buddy, quickly changed his position and brought down accurate fire on, thereby eliminating the terrorist at close range.
